THE SBSCy SEMINAR SERIES 2022

Brianna Bibel, PhD

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Student Ambassador of IUBMB

‘Regulating the regulator: Phosphorylation-mediated regulation of the RNAi effector protein Argonaute’

FEBRUARY 3rd, 2022, 5pm

Brianna “Bri” Bibel is a postgraduate student studying biochemistry and structural biology at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL)’s Graduate School of Biological Sciences in Cold Spring Harbor, New York. In the lab of Dr. Leemor Joshua-Tor, she is using a combination of biochemical, biophysical, and structural methods to gain a better understanding of how gene expression is regulated through the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway. After finishing her graduate work, she will be joining the lab of Dr. Danica Fujimori at UCSF (the University of California, San Francisco) as a postdoctoral researcher.

She graduated from Saint Mary’s College of California (SMC) in 2016 with a B.S. in Biology. While at SMC, she became actively involved in biochemistry research, studying enzyme kinetics in the lab of Dr. Jeffrey Sigman. She finds science fascinating and hert goal is to help make science accessible to everyone, so that they can share in the wonder. She is interested in exploring the use of various forms of science communication and advocating for the advancement of women and underrepresented minorities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). She serves as a Student Ambassador for the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB). She hopes to some day become a professor at a primarily-undergraduate college.

You can follow Bri (@biochem_bri) on Twitter. You can also catch Broadcasts of the Bumbling Biochemist on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
