Dr Charalambidou is a Biologist and Ecologist and an Associate Professor at the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Nicosia where she teaches the BSc Human Biology Program. She holds a BSc in Biology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, an MSc in Ecology from the University of Bangor and a PhD in Ecology from Utrecht University. She is involved in biodiversity research, nature conservation, civil society engagement and awareness raising in England, Greece, Wales, the Netherlands, Denmark, and since 2003 in Cyprus
Since 2010, she has been working in academia and for four years was the coordinator of the BSc Human Biology and BSc Environmental and Energy Management, at the University of Nicosia. She has also been involved in setting up and teaching more than twenty courses ranging from Biology and Human Evolution to Ecology, and Environmental health. Her research interests focus on avian ecology, birds as indicators of environmental health, and the impacts of climate change on biodiversity.
She is one of the founding members of SBSCy, and a founding member of the bicommunal civil society organization, Cyprus Environmental Stakeholder Forum (CESF). My overall vision is to raise awareness in Cyprus about the importance of biodiversity and the relevance to society of making science-based decisions.
