Ioannis has been working as a biology teacher in secondary education for many years. He has worked as a biologist in a research program at the University of Athens, and as a laboratory biologist at a private collage in Nicosia. He has a Diploma in Biology (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), and a Diploma in Technology of Medical Laboratories (Technological Educational Institute of Athens, now University of West Attica). He has received a 2-years Master’s Degree (Magister Artium) in Mediterranean Prehistoric Archaeology (University of Cyprus).

Besides his profession, one of his interests is to conduct occasional surface surveys inside caves of mountainous east Crete, for fossils or signs of the first humans. He is also the administrator of a personal weblog, named Kosmodromio, about the origin and evolution of Homo Sapiens.
