Dr Myrtani Pieri holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Oxford, UK and she is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Life Sciences, University of Nicosia. Her research is focused on gastrointestinal physiology and nutrient transport in various physiological and pathophysiological conditions. Myrtani is also interested in inherited kidney disorders and the role of the Unfolded Protein Response (UPR) in human pathology. So far, she has 18 scientific publications and an h index of 13 and has been the recipient of various grands either as a PI or partner. Myrtani is a member of various professional bodies including the Physiological Society (PhySoc) and the American Physiological Society (APS). Since, 2019, Myrtani is also the president of the Bioethics Evaluation Committee on Biomedical research in Cyprus. In 2011, Myrtani won the international competition in Science Communication, Famelab, and since then she is devoted in Science Outreach.

Myrtani is the co-founder of SciCo-Cyprus, an NGO, based in Cyprus, with the expertise in communicating scientific issues to the public aiming at bridging Science and Society. Since 2020, Dr Pieri is also a member of the Global Young Academy (GYA), an international society of young scientists, focused on Science Outreach and Science Diplomacy across the globe.
